Who’s who

The Sainsbury’s Pension Scheme is run by a Trustee Company called the J Sainsbury Pension Scheme Trustee Limited.

The Trustee company has a Board of Directors (the Trustees) who are responsible for running the Scheme and acting in the best interests of its members.

John Preston I am a professional trustee and non-executive Director. I currently also Chair the Merchant Navy Ratings Pension Fund and serve as a Trustee of the PwC Pension Schemes. I am also the immediate past President and member of Council of the Chartered Institute of Taxation and recently took over as honorary Treasurer of the University of Bath. In addition, I am a Director of Executive Shift, a small charity aimed at promoting Flexible Working as part of a broader diversity agenda. An accountant by training, I was a partner at PricewaterhouseCoopers for 23 years until 2014.
Independent Trustees (appointed by the Company)
Lisa Arnold I am one of the independent Trustee Directors and Chairman of the investment committee. Following a career in the City, working for a number of investment banks, since 2003 I have pursued a portfolio career, using my experience in financial markets and investment where applicable. I hold a number of Trustee Director appointments, as well as being a non-executive director of PIMCO Europe Ltd and Polar Capital Global Healthcare Investment Trust plc. I joined the Sainsbury’s Pension Scheme Trustee Board in December 2016.
Mark Ashworth (for Law Debenture) I am a professional trustee and work with a number of large pension scheme boards. I aim to share my knowledge of best practice for pension schemes and to help with both strategic and operational decisions. I have worked with the Sainsbury’s Pension Scheme since 2005.
Mike Boag I have been a trustee for several schemes since 1994 where I served as Independent Chair. I became a trustee in the HRG Pension Scheme in November 2011. I hold the Pensions Management Institute Diploma of Essential Pensions Knowledge and sit on the Advisory Board of the Pensionchair, a networking group made up of Chairs of some of the largest workplace pension schemes in the UK. I am also a member of the Association of Professional Pension Trustees.
Steve Bradbury I spent 26 very happy years working in finance with Sainsbury’s, the last 19 years as Finance Director of Homebase, before taking early retirement following the sale of Homebase. I then spent 5 years as Finance Director of a large charitable housing association in Richmond-upon-Thames before retiring again to focus on trustee and non-executive director roles. I have been a member nominated trustee since March 2002 and I’m particularly interested in investment matters.
Company-appointed Trustees    
Martyn Burke I have worked for Sainsbury’s for 13 years in Finance roles, primarily supporting Property, IS and our GM & Clothing Trading Teams in Sainsbury’s Argos. I am a member of Sainsbury’s Investment Board and Director of our Property joint ventures with British Land and Land Securities. I joined the Trustee Board in May 2012.
Steven Mobbs I have worked within the Finance division of Sainsbury’s for 15 years. I have held a number of roles over this time and I am currently the Head of Finance for Digital & Technology. I was on the HRG Scheme Trustee Board for a year before the merger.
Member-nominated Trustees    
Beverley Crouch I joined Sainsbury’s in 1988 as a reward specialist and worked at the Store Support Centre in various HR and reward roles. I took early retirement in 2003 and moved to the Kent coast. My time now is largely spent enjoying hobbies and attending local clubs as well, of course, as being involved with the Sainsbury’s Pension Scheme. I have been on the Trustee Board since March 2014.
Paul Densham I have worked for Sainsbury’s for 34 years both in store and then, more recently, at the Store Support Centre where I am currently responsible for buying all utilities such as electricity and gas. I joined the Trustee Board in March 2016.
Adrian Robins I have worked for Sainsbury’s for 30 years in stores all across the country and have spent five years working in the Store Support Centre. I am the Regional Manager for Oxfordshire and Wiltshire and have enjoyed being a trustee for over 12 years.
Martin Rodgers I joined Argos 31 years ago as it moved from London to Milton Keynes. In that time I have worked in all the various supply departments in operational and development project roles. I joined the HRG Pension Trustees in September 2015, and am now pleased to be part of the merged trustee board.
