GMP equalisation: transfer out top-up payment
If you’ve received a letter about GMP equalisation relating to a pension you previously transferred out of the Sainsbury’s Pension Scheme, this page is here to help you.
We understand that getting an unexpected letter about a long-ago pension can feel worrying, and it’s natural to wonder whether it might be a scam. To reassure you, we’ve set up this page on the official Sainsbury’s pensions website to confirm that the project – and your letter – is genuine.
The work is being carried out by WTW, the pensions administrator for the Sainsbury’s Pension Scheme, on behalf of the Scheme Trustee.
WTW (formerly Willis Towers Watson, and before that Towers Watson) have reviewed their records to identify whether any members who transferred their benefits out of the Scheme, and who had service between 1990 and 1997, should have received a higher payment due to GMP equalisation. As you received a letter, this means you are owed a top-up payment, with interest.
Before WTW can make a top-up payment to you, they need to confirm your identity. Please complete this step by visiting https://sainsburys.settlementportal.wtwco.com, where you will be guided through a process to confirm your identity and provide payment details. Use the login details provided in your letter.
This is a large project, which will take a while to complete. WTW will write to people due a top-up payment during 2026 and 2027. WTW will not contact people who are not due a top-up.
